(Zhong)

Independent Enamelist

Zhong started off as an avid Chinese watch collector, but his watch journey took an unexpected turn when he saw the beautiful enamel watchpieces in a magazine. Deeply mesmerized, he took the plunge and started creating his own enamel pieces and has never looked back.

By relentlessly self-learning from enamel making materials online and with the aid of experienced enamel artists in China, Zhong was able to slowly master the art of enameling from the basic cold enameling techniques to the sophisticated Grand Feu Champleve technique used by many of the big Swiss brands. As his skills evolved and perfected, his mastery has since expanded to comprise of Micropainting and Cloisonne enameling techniques.

As his work matures, he hopes to showcase his work and educate more on the beauty of enamel, with the vision of bringing bespoke and affordable enamel pieces that are truly timeless just like how enamel transcends through the tests of time, unchanged forever.

Grand Feu Enamel

The art of enameling was invented by oriental craftsmen nearly 4,000 years ago. Enamel is glass melted together with a colorant. These ingredients are heated to their melting point (800 – 1200 Celsius), then the smelted mixture is set to cool and bond on a metal surface. Enamel created by this method is called Grand Feu (Grand Fire) enamel.  It is a process of repeated layering: the “fire, cool, and add new a enamel layer” process is repeated 4-10 times to achieve the final result.  Designs and colors are imparted in the enamel itself, or sometimes plain enamel is painted on top of with the desired design. Enamel dials have been a rare sight even in the luxurious watch market due to its labor intensiveness, high failure rate and the fact that the remaining artisans of these techniques are far and few.

The result of this painstainkingly delicate procedure is watch dials that are incomprehensibly beautiful and unique, with a rich hue that will never fades or decolorize like metal or lacquer dials.

Taking off

Pegasus

Pegasus is one of the most prominent mythological creatures from the Greek mythology. As a winged divine stallion usually depicted in pure white, the Pegasus is graceful yet fervent. The Pegasus is a symbol of knowledge, glory and inspiration.

Paying homage to one of our favorite and most delicate cloisonne enamel design, we've decided to launch our first season of enamel watches with the Pegasus as our theme. The Pegasus is carefully outlined with silver wires before filling it with white and blue enamel, while contrasting against a backdrop of hand engraved flinque blue enamel base. We have poured in many months of research and experimentation to perfect the design and the Pegasus not just represent our best craft yet, but also symbolizes our studio taking off.

Each season of our enamel series will be comprise of a highly limited run of only 8 watches for each season's design. Season 1 will be launched at a very attractive price, possibly the most affordable cloisonne enamel dial yet of such complexity, as we hope more people will be able to enjoy this beautiful form of art craft that has been previously reserved only for the very flagships of big watch brands.

FAQ

Am i able to View Your Watches Physically?

If you are in Singapore or Pingxiang, we will be more than glad to showcase to you our work. Currently, we do not distribute our watch as we hope to bring the cost low and transfer this savings to you our clients. We take as many photographs of the actual watch without processing as possible to realistically showcase our product. However, due to the difficulty of capturing the beauty of enamel dials, our pictures alway do not do our watch justice. (We are that confident, really.)

Are there other currency that I Make Payment In?

Other than the 2 types of currencies indicated, international orders will be automatically calculated and converted by paypal.

What happens after my order is placed?

As the enamel watch is an intricate and complicated timepiece, we do not have ready-stock available. After the details for the order is finalized and a deposit is placed, we will proceed the crafting of the watch.

How long will it take to receive my watch?

As the studio only consist has Zhong as the sole enameler and also due to the complexity and natural high failure rate of enamel dial making, the watch will be delivered within 2 months from the time of deposit payment. As we strive to only present the very best, we have a stringent quality control of our enamel dials (Eg,large bubbles after firing), and we hope to seek your understanding regarding the production time required.

What is covered in the warranty?

The warranty provides coverage for 2 years from the purchase date to the original owner only. Our warranty covers the watch movement and excludes: watch case, watch bracelet, straps, crown/stem, crystal/glass, finishes, damage caused by excessive wear and tear and/or physical/accidental abuse, and damage resulting from wear under conditions exceeding the watch water resistance limitations. The warranty will be voided if improper repair is performed by someone other than us. Due to the fragile and irreparable nature of enamel dial, we strongly do not advise our clients to seek third-party servicing or repair of our watch.
